Application Programming is more commonly referred to as Advanced Business Application Programming and is a high level programming language created by SAP. In the field of computers and programming, SAP programmers are highly sought after and therefore, application programming has mushroomed as a hot favourite career amongst those wishing to make a mark in the programming industry.
Courses
Due to the high demand, many institutes are offering certification courses in SAP. However only two institutes in India are authorized SAP partners in India but due to the sheer lack of demand of qualified professionals and a lack of supply of the same, many institutes are now offering job oriented certification courses in SAP.
Eligibility
Since this is fragmented market and no standard eligibility criteria exists, the eligibility criteria differs with every institute. However, it is recommended that candidates wanting to specialize as functional consultants have atleast 4-5 years of experience in areas such as marketing, accounting, sales, purchase etc. For technical consultants, an experience of 3-4 years is desired in programming. For candidates wanting to specialize as functional consultants, it is always advisable to choose a specialized area where the candidate has prior work experience and skills.
Prospects
Qualified SAP professionals have the world at their feet, quite literally. They are in great demand not only in India but also abroad. Government and private companies are always headhunting for qualified SAP professionals who are absorbed into companies just as soon as they pass out and these programmers command high salaries which increases with experience.
