BA (Hons) is an acronym for Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and is a course that has been around in India for quite some time. Earlier, BA (Hons) was a hot favourite but with the rise of new age careers, the number of aspiring candidates has dwindled steadily, though BA (Hons) still has a small but loyal fan following.
Course
Bachelor of Arts is a graduation degree and is offered by numerous institutes all over the country. Aspiring candidates can opt for a BA (Hons) program in a variety of specializations like economics, history, geography, political science, sociology, home science, psychology and other disciplines. In addition to full time programs available, candidates who are not able to enroll for the full time BA (Hons) program due to inadequate marks or professional and personal priorities can choose to pursue this program through correspondence. Several institutes across the country offer correspondence and long distance learning courses in BA (Hons).
Eligibility
To enroll for a BA (Hons) program, an aspiring candidate must have appeared and successfully cleared class 12 with atleast 50% marks.
Prospects
Prospects for successful candidates are, unfortunately, not as bright as they used to be a couple of years ago due to the fact that most candidates are now opting for more promising careers. However, candidates can still find jobs in the government sector, some private companies, BPO. Many candidates, after completion of BA (Hons) choose to opt for a specialized course like a MBA and other similar courses. The graduation sets a platform for pursuing a masters degree later.
