Chemical engineering is the study of designing and maintenance of chemical plants used for the production of products from raw materials. Chemical engineering’s key study elements comprises of physics, chemistry, biology with the study of engineering. It also includes the fields of biotechnology and nanotechnology to develop and use the chemicals for the production of products.
Admission Procedure
The admission to undergraduate course of Chemical Engineering remains same as other fields of engineering i.e. 10+2 in science with minimum 60% in PCB/PCM. But admission procedure varies from university to university.
Personal Attributes
As chemical engineering is interrelated to many other fields of science; therefore to become an efficient chemical engineer a student should possess qualities like team work skills, good reasoning and problem solving skills, hard work, good at conceptualizing projects and designing layouts, intellectual, good communication skills and honesty towards profession.
Career Options
Chemical Engineering is a wide field and therefore allows a wide range of job opportunities for the students. After four year undergraduate course there are a lot of academic options available for students which can help them achieve specializations in their academic field as well as grab a high salary job. Courses like M.Tech, M.sc, PHD or MBA in their related field such as biotechnology or nanotechnology can help them grasp a job at higher strata of organization or at managerial level. Chemical Engineers are can be absorbed by both public and private sector companies like pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals, defense sector, health sector, environmental conservation sector or teaching.
