Industrial Engineering is a wide branch of engineering which involves the calculation and utilization of all the resources of an organization including people, materials, time, finance, equipments and other resources. Hence industrial engineers systematically amalgamate the techniques of mathematical, physical, and social sciences with the resources of the organization including workers, materials, and equipment. Industrial Engineering is a wide field and often known as Production Engineering, Manufacturing engineering or operation engineering. The term changes with the mode and type of organization Industrial engineering knowledge are utilized but the procedure, educational qualification and techniques remain same.
Educational Qualification
The B.E. or B.Tech in Industrial Engineering requires 10+2 in science; the admission procedure remains same like other fields of engineering. At post graduate level degree and advanced diploma courses like M.tech or MBA in Industrial Management are also offered by various universities and institutes. Ph.D courses are also available which help achieve expertise in the relative field.
Job Prospects
Alike the versatility of Industrial Engineering the opportunity for jobs is also versatile. Industrial Engineers can be appointed at various levels of management like manufacturing engineers, process engineers, quality control manager, human resource manager, project manager, management consultant, plant supervisor, business systems analyst, and health and safety manager depending on the industry type. Various industries an Industrial Engineer student can apply are banks, hospitality industry, hospitals, shopping malls, post offices, insurance companies, travel companies etc.
It can be said that Industrial Engineering services are not limited to a specific field; hence can be termed as an evergreen branch of engineering.
