You need to be very particular about the subjects you choose when preparing for IAS exam as you will be required to answer objective type questions. History, mathematics and geography are scoring subjects. Choose subjects which are easily available in books, supplements or other references. These days engineering subjects can also be chosen such as civil and electrical.
You simply cannot avoid the importance of GK. It is going to pay in prelims, Read newspapers, watch TV and magazine like Competition Success Review. Do read newspaper of last one year and remain update with all the current issues not only in the country but also around the world.
If you are lucky and reached at the interview stage then here other than book knowledge, your presence of mind and mental alertness will play a huge role.
Work on your personality too. You need to be medically fit also.
