B.A. is degree program that confers a degree of Bachelor of Arts on the student. The most common Arts subjects in India are English, History, Geography, Psychology, Sociology, Economics, etc. There are, however, any number of subjects in which a student can obtain a B.A. in and there are many colleges that offer a specialized B.A. in a rare subject including subjects like Philosophy and Tourism.
Eligibility and Duration for a B.A. General
Minimum qualification required for B.A. General is passing marks in 12th standard examination. Different colleges offering B.A. are likely to have their own cut-off marks depending on the number of students that apply to their courses, every year. The cut-off also vary depending on the major that student wishes to take. The best colleges offering B.A. in the country typically have a cut off of 90% plus for a subject like Economics.
B.A. is generally a three year full-time course. If the student wishes to do a part-time B.A. then the duration can vary as per the program from three to five years.
Scope for B.A. General
B.A. nowadays is a basic qualification. Anyone who wishes to get a job in an office almost certainly has to have at least a B.A. degree. It is also a good stepping stone for anyone wishing to take up further specializations like Law, Literature, Psychology & Counseling, Teaching & the I.A.S. There are several vocational B.A. degrees that have come up that are suited to a particular job like Travel & Tourism, Library & Information Science, etc.
