Application of physic and chemistry along with mathematics for the conversion process of raw materials to make them more useful as well as important is referred as chemical engineering.
The responsibility of chemical engineers is to look out for the best method to manufacture products. He is responsible for giving a practical or actual form to the processes that were experimented in the lab so as to produce new products or commodities like plastics, drugs, detergents etc. they also design plants with objective of maximized productivity at minimal cost.
The main focus of chemical engineering study is Industrial Chemistry, Polymer Processing/Testing and Synthesis etc.

Career Prospects
There are tremendous job opportunities with the chemical engineering in hand. Numerous industries namely food, materials, plastics, biotechnology and environmental control etc. employ chemical engineers.
In India, you can have wide career options as chemical engineers not only in public sector but also in private sector. You can get job in the area of processing, research and development, designing, construction and finance etc.
Teaching is also yet another good option as you can be employed in engineering institutions and colleges but to have better job prospects in the field of teaching it is advisable that you choose from or higher studies in the field of chemical engineering.
It is quite easy for chemical engineers to find a good job in almost all companies which deal in the production of chemicals. Their work area is also extended to the areas comprising nuclear energy, food production, and the evolvement of new sources of energy. Addition to this, they also do the job of research, data processing and sales management etc.
Remuneration
Considering the rapidly growing chemical industry not only in India but around the world, the demand of increase in chemical engineers is obvious. The average salary of a fresher graduate in chemical engineering varies depending on the type of the industry joined by him like private or public.
The initial salary of a chemical engineering degree holder is `10,000 to `15,000 per month, excluding other allowances etc. To increase the pay scale, the most important factors comprise experience and qualification along with ability. Pay scale in private sector is more compared to public sector. Senior chemical engineers who have experience of more than five years can get the package '30,000 to '50,000 per month.
