Any diploma that teaches you how to improve your skills as an actor is known as diploma in acting.
Eligibility
Since this is just a diploma and not a degree course and that too in acting, which rarely has anything to do with education, you most probably do not need an eligibility to apply for this course. Different institution serving the field may require different eligibility criteria to apply for courses run by them in the field of acting. Whereas some courses run by The National school of Drama may require you to be a graduate in any stream to apply for them, other courses may require you to be even a higher secondary or even less.
Duration
Most institutions providing acting courses provide both short term and long term courses, giving a choice to the students to choose according to their convenience. Whereas a short term acting course may last only for three months, a longer one may even last for three years.
Scope
- Needless to say, at least in India, the ultimate destination for most young aspiring actors these days is Bollywood, also known as the Hindi Film Industry. Those from South India or who know the languages spoken in South India can also try luck in the regional Film industry, which is well developed.
- Traditionally speaking, acting skills are usually associated with theatre and stage. This may include the street plays, which have had their impact mainly in rural India.
- The scope of a career in acting has widened with the growth of Television Industry, which offers a lot of opportunities to the actors.
- Acting skills also make you better prepared for the related jobs like direction.
