As the name suggests the field of social work is right for those who are actually willing to improve lives of fellow beings. They help people by offering their help in solving their day-to-day problems which may be family or personal ones. Social workers also work for those facing life threatening diseases, unemployment or social problem; in simple words, those who are mentally, physically or socially ill.
Social workers choose their field of work as per their specialization as some will be health and medical social workers while others can be substance abuse social worker.
Eligibility Criteria for Master of Social Work (M.S.W.)
- You must have passed three years bachelor degree or its equivalent from a reputed university or college in any discipline.
- You must have at least 50% marks in aggregate to be eligible to seek admission in this course.
- Those who are appearing in the final year examination at graduation level can also apply.
- Relaxation of 5% in marks can be given to those belonging to SC/ST/ PWD category by some universities or colleges.
- You may also have to appear for a written test which is followed by interview or group discussion.
Career Prospects
Employment opportunities in social work field are increasing and the credit goes to growing population of old people and the baby boom generation; so, the increase in the demand of health and social services in obvious and thus creating numerous jobs for social workers. The number of jobs in private social service agencies has also increased tremendously.
